Creating a Six-Figure Business as a Stay-at-Home-Mom Entrepreneur (MomUp Show Episode 17 with Andrea Thomas)

Creating a Six-Figure Business as a Stay-at-Home-Mom Entrepreneur (MomUp Show Episode 17 with Andrea Thomas)

One of the hardest decisions as a mom is whether to go back to work, to stay home, do a mix of both, or maybe start your own business. The answer is different for everyone, but for Andrea Thomas, she went from career woman to stay-at-home-mom to building a six-figure business as a stay-at-home-mom entrepreneur.

Making the choice to stay at home.

Before becoming a mom, Andrea Thomas was happy as an architect. But like so many moms, once that little bundle of joy arrived, the prospect of going back to work was just too much. She extended her maternity leave then eventually quit her job to stay at home with her baby.

But surprise! Through becoming a mother, a new life as a stay-at-home-mom entrepreneur was born too. Her daughter had eczema, and Andrea was desperate for a solution to the itching and scratch so her daughter could find rest and comfort. That’s when she created flip-mitten sleeves and started ScratchMeNot. Baby and kids products specifically designed to alleviate some of the side effects of eczema.

What started as a small business with Andrea herself even doing some sewing grew into a six-figure business with tons of moving pieces. Not only was Andrea helping her daughter and other kids with eczema find relief, but she had found a new passion to pursue.

We talk about the choices we make as moms, whether and how we pursue our dreams, and Andrea’s best tip for building a business as a busy stay-at-home-mom entrepreneur.

Andrea Thomas is the mom of 5, wife to 1, and CEO of a business she loves to talk about in her free business Facebook group!

Her business, ScratchMeNot, began because she knew there were children (besides her own) who needed relief her product provides. Better yet, give a bit of sanity and peace to other parents. This was and still is her mission. Selling products and creating awareness about the conditions this product supports.

Her first book launches soon!

Weight Loss for Busy Moms: How to Start Your Healthy Journey

Weight Loss for Busy Moms: How to Start Your Healthy Journey

Moms are under so much pressure to not just be the best mother possible, but to look like society’s idea of perfection while doing it. It can be really hard to both love ourselves exactly as we are while also wanting to be healthy and happy. Jai Murphy, certified health coach, shares her tips for weight loss for busy moms.

For full details be sure to listen to this episode of the MomUp Show, but here is a rundown of the best tips form Jai:

1. Hold yourself accountable. Find ways to make sure you follow through on your goals. She started by creating an Instagram account just for her weight loss goals and followed accounts that made her feed like a vision board.

2. Submerse yourself in learning. Be willing to dive into the deep end and learn all you can. As much as we wish we did, we don’t know everything. Having an openness to finding new ways to accomplish your goals is key.

3. Remember, YOU ARE WORTHY. Life isn’t perfect, you aren’t perfect, your body isn’t perfect… instead of bemoaning it though, let’s EMBRACE IT. Instead of getting bogged down in perfection just find small ways to love yourself today and just inch a little closer to your goals today than you were yesterday.

Being a mom is chaotic and exhausting. Jai is an inspiration not just because of her weight loss, but her commitment to herself while simultaneously nurturing and loving herself. Be sure to give yourself realistic expectations and enjoy the process. Your weight loss journey is yours and you get to determine what is best for you. Enjoy the ride mama, and hopefully the tips in this podcast for weight loss for busy moms will help you on the road.

Body Positive Health & Wellness Coach, Jai Murphy, is classically trained and certified as a Health Coach and has a degree in Health Administration. What sets Jai apart from most health coaches is her ability to bridge the gap between the worlds of those wanting to lose weight, those fighting to embrace body positivity, and the traditional health & fitness world.

Jai has lost over 200lbs naturally and is in the midst of her own inspirational health journey. Jai doesn’t just regurgitate what the textbooks say; she shows in real time how to implement the knowledge and changes into the good and the bad of real life. Her extensive and engaged audience across her various social media platforms get a front row seat to Jasmin’s journey as she navigates the crooked roads of motherhood and health.

Self-Care for Moms: Finding a Practice that Works for You (Episode 12 MomUp Show with Tiffany Lanier)

Self-Care for Moms: Finding a Practice that Works for You (Episode 12 MomUp Show with Tiffany Lanier)

How often do you think about needing to create a self-care practice, but it just kind of falls by the wayside? Tiffany Lanier was forced to during pregnancy complications, and she shares with us what she learned. Self-care for moms is necessary, and it’s time we took it from the bottom to the top of our to-do lists.

During an anatomy scan, Tiffany Lanier found out she had a partial placenta abruption in the middle of pregnancy, a fibroid under the placenta, and a shrinking cervix. She had the bad luck of just getting all these unrelated complications at the same time and in a waiting game.

The high risk doctor told her she probably would not carry the baby to full term, and that she ran the risk of losing her own life in the process too. (She amazingly has a healthy girl now.)

We talk about how she found her self-care practice through that traumatic pregnancy, and then getting through postpartum depression after the birth of her daughter.

1. Focus on what you can do right now to shift your energy

2. Examine what your days look like and make adjustment

3.Create a practice (what activities make you feel good)

…and just start, and keep moving forward.

Tiffany is a leading millennial voice in personal growth, meaningful work, and #TheFutureofLeadership. She is an entrepreneur, a renowned Inspirational Speaker and the Founder of LPLC 360 Co., a consciously-driven personal and leadership development company.

Although her journey for empowering change in others started in college, after surviving a complicated pregnancy and suffering postpartum depression (all while growing her business), Tiffany hit a proverbial rock bottom. Faced with back-to-back physical, emotional and financial setbacks, Tiffany had an epiphany and realized in order to be a great mother, partner, entrepreneur, leader, and human it was time to own her shift. Her intention to rediscover who she was, her purpose, and embrace her next chapter led to personal and professional breakthroughs that have catapulted her life and career. Tiffany is now dedicated to helping others create conscious shifts in every aspect of their lives.

Today, Tiffany is fueled by the motto: Live Purposefully and Lead Consciously. Whether she is speaking to college students, entrepreneurs, creatives, community leaders or executives, Tiffany challenges her audience to re-discover who they are, what they stand for, and what matters. Known as the “Queen of Clarity” her self-reflective approach helps her audience and clients overcome the obstacles holding them back from showing up more powerfully (and consciously) in the way they live, lead, and work.

Tiffany’s eclectic background in personal growth, business development, digital marketing, new media, and social change advocacy has made her a sought-after public speaker, trainer, and facilitator. She’s presented for top businesses, brands, universities and organizations including Capital One, United Way, DeVry, and TEDx.

Being a Mom with Depression (MomUp Show Episode 9 with Guest April Ross)

Being a Mom with Depression (MomUp Show Episode 9 with Guest April Ross)

What is it like being a mom with depression? How are we parenting with and through mental illness?

Thankfully there has been much more attention placed on Postpartum Depression and Anxiety, and the stigma has slowly been fading from being a mom with mental illness. But we still have a ways to go to truly being and feeling supported as a mom with depression.

April Ross joins me today to discuss depression, mental illness, and how she has personally coped. I also share how I have dealt with depression and anxiety in my own life.

I also just happened to be going through a round of depression as I put out this episode, and shared that in the intro. I try to be as open as I can with the struggles I go through as a mom and a person in the hopes that someone out there listening will know it isn’t just you. It’s me too, and its a lot of us.

Being a mom with depression is hard, but there are resources to help.

I also stronger encourage moms who are dealing with mental illness to find help.

I have used and recommend Better Help: http://momuprising.com/betterhelp

They are an online service that connects you with licensed mental health professionals for virtual help.

For some more laid back methods for self-love and getting in touch with yourself, you can try these 5 ways to find yourself in 5 minute or less: www.momuprising.com/5minutes

April Ross is a Mental Health Maverick specializing in helping women with Bipolar live a happy, confident and fulfilled life.

April was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder after the “2 year depression from hell” following a miscarriage in 2007. Even after meds she had so much underlying trauma and emotional dysfunction that she felt broken, alone, and worthless.

She took a bucket (f*** it) list trip to Hawaii with her Mom and Daughter, and that’s when everything changed. She realized she felt amazing after just two days and dedicated her life to finding out how to live EVERY day like a day at the beach- for REAL!

April has shaken her life like a snow globe and knows what works and what doesn’t when it comes to mental stability. She knows how to go from lonely and afraid to confident and fulfilled in EVERY way and is dedicated to helping others do the same.

April is a writer, speaker, and field advocate for the AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention). She has graduated the High Impact Coaching program, holds an Associates Degree in Business Administration and is a member of the International Association of Women.
